Speedway Fanfare Competititon

Recording day: 2-4.30pm, 28 August,  Philharmonia Hall, 427 Dominion Rd, Mt Eden

Last year we asked secondary students to write pieces for The Blues rugby team to run onto the field to at Eden Park. Three of the finalists’ pieces have subsequently been performed in concert by the APO.

This year we invite students to compose an original fanfare for orchestral brass and percussion to be played at the opening Western Springs Speedway meet of the 2012-2013 summer season. Fanfares should reflect the exciting nature of the Speedway setting, and be no more than 90 seconds in duration.

Six finalists will be selected and mentored by our Composer-in-Residence Jack Body, and their pieces will be recorded by APO musicians and conducted by composer Kenneth Young. The winner will have their piece performed in our Discovery concert in 2013.
