KBB Music Young Performers' Competition
The winners of the KBB Music Young Performers Competition 2012 are:
Strings: Cecilia Xu, Cello, Epsom Girls Grammar School
Wind/brass: Joey Chen, Flute, Rangitoto College
Since 1999 the APO has invited secondary school students to compete for the chance to perform solo in concert with he full orchestra. This year we offered schools the opportunity to put forward students to represent their school in two categories: Strings and Wind, Brass and Percussion.
On Sunday 28 October, the six finalists will compete in a final recital at the the Raye Freedman Arts Centre
The 2012 finalists are:
STRINGS
Sally Kim, Westlake Girls High School-cello
Alexander McFarlane, Auckland Grammar –viola
Cecilia Xu, Epsom Girls Grammar School –cello
WIND/BRASS
Geeny Moon, Rangi Ruru Girls College, Christchurch – French horn
Joey Chen, Rangitoto College –flute
Christo Karadjov, Auckland Grammar – clarinet
The winning student in the two categories will receive $250, for each of them and their school. We are delighted to introduce our new patron for this competition: Brecon Carter, MNZM, and APO Concertmaster Emeritus. Brecon believes wholeheartedly in the value of competitions to develop young players potential.
There will be a judging panel of three for the competition which will be chaired by Dr Jo Harrop, Director of Sistema Aotearoa. The IRMT will have one representative, and the University of Auckland will be represented by Dene Sky-Lucas.
Tickets are $10 and $5 G.A. Door sales will be available from 1pm
