Nabucco was the opera that established Verdi’s reputation as an outstanding opera composer. He described it as “the opera with which my artistic career really begins. And though I had many difficulties to fight against, it is certain that Nabucco was born under a lucky star." Part love story and part political drama, this is dramatic and moving Verdi.
It is best known for the ‘Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves’, which was a hit from the very first performance.
With a strong chorus presence from the Chapman Tripp Opera Chorus and a large orchestra on stage, this concert performance of the opera will be a thrilling and powerful experience.

The soprano role of Abigaille, daughter of the king (Nabucco), is renowned for its treacherous difficulty as well as its dramatic impact. The role has one of opera's most dramatic entrances, and a death scene that can steal the show. Italian soprano Paoletta Marrocu has received rave reviews for her agile and distinctive voice and her committed interpretations. She will be joined by an outstanding cast of international and New Zealand singers.
